Can You Post Affiliate Links on TikTok?

The short answer:

Yes — and TikTok is unusually explicit about it. Its Branded Content Policy names affiliate arrangements directly, defining branded content to include any product or service for which you will receive a commission on sales, whether via an affiliate link or a promotional code. But TikTok is also, by a wide margin, the most restrictive platform in this series — not because of how it treats links, but because of what you're allowed to promote. Its Prohibited Industries list runs to sixteen categories, and it eliminates most of the affiliate marketing economy.

What happens if you break this rule?

  • Muted audio. The oddest and most common. Commercial content is expected to draw from TikTok's Commercial Music Library; using a trending popular track on commercial content can get the audio stripped.
  • Reduced distribution. TikTok's enforcement ladder starts with quiet suppression. The video stays up and stops being served.
  • Content removal. TikTok states plainly that where branded content doesn't comply, it may remove the content or impose other restrictions.
  • Account suspension. The endpoint for repeated undisclosed commercial content or prohibited-category promotion.
  • Permanent public record. Where required by law, branded content may be added to TikTok's Commercial Content Library and kept publicly available even if you delete or alter the original.
  • Silent commission disqualification. From your network, not TikTok. Promoting a video containing your affiliate link via purchased advertising can violate network terms.
  • FTC exposure. Per-violation civil penalties exceeding $51,000 for undisclosed material connections.

The Fix: Use a Bridge Page

1

Check your niche against the Prohibited Industries list first

TikTok prohibits promoting products from many industries: Pharmaceuticals, healthcare, medicine, weight loss, financial products, dating, drug-related (including CBD), weapons (including non-culinary knives), professional services, gambling, alcohol, tobacco, adult. If your niche is on this list, TikTok is not a channel for that offer.

2

Understand where a link can actually go

TikTok is structurally hostile to outbound links. Clickable options: Bio website field (requires 1,000 followers for personal, 0 for business) and TikTok Shop product links. Video captions and comments are not clickable. The Business account trade-off: you get the link immediately, but it restricts music to the Commercial Music Library.

3

Enable the commercial content disclosure toggle

This is mandatory. TikTok requires you to enable the commercial content disclosure toggle when posting branded content, which includes all affiliate posts.

4

Add your own disclosure on top

The toggle satisfies TikTok, not the FTC. FTC expects disclosure in the same medium: say it out loud early, put it on screen as text, and put it in the caption's first line. Use #ad, (paid link), or a plain sentence.

5

Identify the product clearly in the video itself

You must explicitly identify the product verbally and/or in the caption. The 'link in bio, you know the one' approach is a policy problem.

6

Keep the claims defensible

TikTok prohibits false, deceptive, or misleading claims. No medical or efficacy claims, no before/after comparisons, no invented scarcity, no fabricated results.

7

Declare TikTok with your affiliate network

Most agreements require you to identify where you'll post links. Amazon prohibits using its marks in a username.

8

Don't promote the post

Boosting converts an organic post into an ad. For Amazon, purchases referred through any advertisement you purchased are disqualified.

Two caveats. TikTok's global Branded Content Policy carried a 'last updated November 2023' stamp at the time of writing, and TikTok's US operations moved to TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC in January 2026 — an entity that holds decision-making authority over US trust and safety policy and moderation. US-specific policy may diverge from the global document. Verify both before publishing. Not legal advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are affiliate links allowed on TikTok?
Yes. TikTok's Branded Content Policy explicitly includes commission-earning arrangements — affiliate links and promo codes — in its definition of branded content, and sets rules for posting it rather than prohibiting it. The real constraint is the Prohibited Industries list, which rules out several of the largest affiliate verticals.
Can I put an affiliate link in my TikTok caption or comments?
They won't be clickable. TikTok renders caption URLs as plain text, and comment links aren't clickable for most accounts. Your clickable options are the bio website field and, if eligible, TikTok Shop product links attached to the video.
Do I need 1,000 followers to add a link to my bio?
For a personal account, yes. Business accounts get the website field immediately with no follower threshold — the trade-off being restricted music rights, since Business accounts draw from the Commercial Music Library.
Is the commercial content toggle enough disclosure?
For TikTok's rules, yes — it's mandatory and it auto-labels your video. For the FTC, no. Video needs disclosure in the same medium as the recommendation, meaning spoken and on-screen, plus the caption. Use the toggle and your own disclosure.
Can I promote supplements or weight loss products?
Not as branded content. Pharmaceuticals, healthcare and medicine products (including vitamins and supplements claiming health benefits) and weight loss products and services are both named Prohibited Industries.
What's the difference between TikTok Shop affiliate and an external affiliate link?
TikTok Shop keeps the entire transaction inside the app, attaches product links directly to the video, and runs on TikTok's own commission system. An external affiliate link has to route through your bio, which costs clicks and exposes you to more policy surface.
If I delete a non-compliant post, is it gone?
Not necessarily. Where legally required, branded content may be added to TikTok's Commercial Content Library, and TikTok notes it may be obliged to keep that content publicly available even if the original is deleted or altered. Post as though it's permanent.
